For everyone, March is just an ordinary month, with no significant events to celebrate. In the Philipines, March means summer is just around the corner. For students, this is a happy month for them because it’s almost school vacation time. But, did you know that there’s one very special event in March that we should not missed especially for all the women around the world? It’s the International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day can be traced back to the early 20th century. It first took place in March 19, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Over a million public attendees show support for that event. In addition, UN recognized the 1975 as International Women’s Year and start celebrating on March 08 as International Women’s Day.

As a reminder to everyone, International Women’s day is a global day to recognize and celebrate the women’s and girls’ contribution to every aspect of society. A world that has gender equality, is free of bias, and discrimination. International Women’s Day celebrates the day of unity, reflection advocacy, and action. Let’s promote love, forgiveness, compassion, and happiness.

Don’t forget this music that inspires us on how to stay strong and empower ourselves as a woman. Be inspired by: Beyonce’s “Run the World, Helen Reddy’s “I Am Woman”, Alicia Keys “Girl on Fire and a lot more.

Let’s celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day with the theme: “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”
