The 5th of October is celebrated around the world as Teachers Day, including in Canada and the Philippines. On this day, we applaud our teachers for their constant support and sacrifices. When you think of what a teacher is, the first thing that comes to mind is someone who delivers knowledge and then tests you for how well you retained it. However, they are so much more than that. A teacher’s role is not just the gatekeeper of information, they have a larger influence in students’ lives than we think.
Students are the future of the nation we live in and of humankind, and we must credit our teachers for their input when it comes to shaping their advancement. Teaching academics and extracurricular activities are just part of the process, but they are also responsible for shaping a child’s vision of a better future.
A good teacher is a valuable asset because they impart knowledge, promote ethics, and good values so they are better equipped to face modern day challenges. As teachers they carry some responsibility to inspire students to strive for greatness and create good humans. Intern, they are able to contribute to their community as accountable civic citizens.
Teachers are the heart of public education. October 5th commemorates the teaching profession’s contribution to educating children but we must also bring to light the huge responsibility as they are also guides and role models for our children. A good teacher is full of passion and continues to motivate students to strive for more and move beyond their horizons.
We celebrate teachers’ day to thank them for their unspoken contribution to the development of social fabric and society. And for their unfailing love, devotion to education, and relentless patience, virtue, and quality that deserves special attention. Teachers Day is a time to reflect on those special educators who have made an impact on us all and to show our appreciation for inspiring us in the classroom and in life.
